Social Security Income For Aged. Please Help.? I'm 68 years old & I'm not able to get a social security income for aged. Which includes cash. I've only been a resident for almost 4 years. and it states that i could only get it if i have been a resident for 5 years. Also, I came from Cuba in 2000 and I had to come in 1996 or before and if I came after that I had to have had my residents card for more than 5 years, like I stated earlier. So is there another way to get the social security income for aged people? Please Answer! Thank you. I made a mistake. I need the SSI , Supplemental Security Income. Thanks
Can a company find my age with my social security number? I want to sign up for a pretty popular affiliate marketing network. They require your SS# to report your earnings. Also when you sign up they ask you to confirm that you are 18 years old. If I give them my name and SS#, can they find out my age when they report the income to the IRS?
Solution to Social Security? There are two popular answers to saving the Social Security System- Old Age, Survivors, Disability Insurance. 1. Raise Payroll taxes, freeze benefits and raise the retirement age to 70 2. Privatize Social Security. Replace the government system with individual accounts. An employee's payroll taxes are sent to a private account where he/she can save or invest his/her money as he/she wants. Widows and Widowers can have access to the money after the spouse dies to account for the current Survivor's Insurance. Disabled are put on the current SSI- Supplemental Security Income. which do you think works?
canada pension at age 65? i don't have a private pension plan....now 63 yrs old....would i be eligible for cpp plus old age security or some other supplement at age 65 and if i continue to work will it affect my pension income?? ...
Social Security Income and Taxation? I am 56 1/2 years old and am starting to analyze my options in reference to collecting social security payments. I had heard that there is something referred to as a "cap" on social security and it is related to taxation on social security monthly distributions. Initially I though it made sense to take my social security when I was first eligible (age 62 years and 0 months). But I was also told that I had to be careful in doing so because other income that I may have (savings distributions, pension and wages if I am still working), could cause me to have to pay taxes not only on my social security income, but on my pension as well. I recently read that if I waited to age 66 years and 0 months to take social security distribution, that the social security "cap" is no longer in place and I would never be taxed on social security distribution no matter how much income I received. So here are my questions 1. This cap that I described above, am I accurate with my understanding of how taxation on social security distributions works? Is there a point at which I will never be taxed on social security? 2. If there is a cap, what is it? Maybe taking social security at age 62 would not cause me to be taxed on those distributions. 3. Are there tax laws in place that apply to my pension as well? Where can I find the information needed so that I can make good decisions on when to take these distributions without being taxed?
Since Social Security is bankrupt, is it time to eliminate the program altogether? Social Security was raided of it's funds for decades and now is bankrupt, basically. While this is unfortunate for those who contributed for decades, hoping for a safety net in old age, it just didn't work out that way due to misuse of funds. Is it time now to responsibly disband the Social Security program and go back to the "old days" of the elderly being cared for by family members, while they have no monthly income of their own?

Why not fix Social Security NOW? A recent US NEWS report on Yahoo pointed out the following: "If all earned income above $106,800 annually were subject to Social Security contributions but did not count toward benefits, Social Security's projected deficit would be completely eliminated. If the higher income counted toward Social Security benefits, about 95 percent of the shortfall would be absolved." What this did not factor in, was that a vast amount of income is not subject to SS taxes. Investment income, where a person can earn millions on stock deals, is not included in taxable income for SS. So multimillionaires can make millions, and pay nothing into SS. If all income, from wages and investments, were taxed for SS in full, what would the tax rate be to make the system solvent forever? Right now, you get to 95% by simply taxing all wages. Adding in the investment earnings, might actually produce a surplus at current tax rates. You might be able to lower the tax rates on everyone, and still make the system solvent. You could pass the lower rates back to the people and help small business at the same time by lowering the employer's tax rate by 75% of the reduction, and the employee's by the other 25% for small businesses. And leave the rates even for larger businesses. NET EFFECT: Social Security is solvent and stable for ever. Small business gets a much needed boost by lowering taxes it has to pay for employee's. Employee's get a reduction in taxes over what they are paying now. No need to reduce benefits or raise retirement ages to fix problem. The rich pay more, but also get credit for the money they pay. And yes, I know that the rich are the target of this idea. And yes I know that the rich pay most of all taxes when it comes to income tax. But that is not true of Social Security. Since the tax is capped at $106,000 in wages, and does not even cover investment income, the richest 10% of Americans pay a very small percentage of the total taxes for Social Security. The age old question comes to mind. Why should a guy who sits in a swank, air conditioned corner office; and makes a million dollars on the stock market - pay less in social security taxes than the garbage collector, out on the street in the hot sun, making $70,000 a year? Rocky Mtn High You said: "f the government takes more in taxes from the richest, they spend less and the economy shrinks, leaving government revenue largely unchanged." You are actually dead wrong on this - and have swallowed the Kool-Aid of the Voodoo Economics crowd. The RICH are not, and have not been investing in America for a very long time. They put their money in the Stock Market, investing in multinational corporations, that are the very ones moving all our manufacturing and other jobs off-shore. Most of which spend millions telling you how high corporate taxes are in the US, all the while they are paying no taxes at all. The massive tax cuts that the Bush administration gave to the top 5% of all income earners, did NOTHING to help the economy grow, and instead, the massive deficits, (Bush had a 1.3 Trillion dollar deficit his last year in office - 3.5 Trillion over the course of his presidency.) helped stifle growth and contributed to the collapse of the economy. Shovel Ready: Your comment: "There is really no way to "fix" a Ponzi scheme. We can delay the inevitable a bit by raising taxes; we can delay the inevitable a bit by lowering benefits; we can delay the inevitable a bit by allowing millions of young Mexicans to contribute. No matter what, people in the end will be screwed. Therefore, what we cannot do is "fix" it. Socialism crashes when it runs out of other people's money." Did you simply fail to read the article, or are you so indoctrinated by the anti-social security crowd that you can not present a logical argument? SS is not and never was a ponzi scheme. You pay you taxes to support those who have retired already. Your kids will pay their taxes to support you when you retire. It has always been that way. Never was advertised as anything else. The huge shortfall is not do to all the tripe you hear from the radical right about giving to many benefits. It is simply the fact that most of those who are currently receiving checks did not pay into SS their full working lives. Combine that with the fact that the funds, which had been building a surplus for years, have been raided time and again to pay for other things, and now only contain IOU's. The article stated that simply lifting the cap on what wages are taxed, would eliminate 95% of the shortfall, even if the SS benefits of the rich were raised to reflect the higher payments. If you then add in the earnings of those who make money by investing, rather than getting a paycheck, you would have a very large surplus of money. This would allow you to lower the tax rate on everyone - which should stimulate the economy. And I am sorry, but if an investment in the economy makes sense when you keep 100% of the money - it will still make sense when you keep 93% of the money. Our your method of analysis is so flawed, you will be broke soon and won't be paying taxes anyway. gosam777 You said: "OR, we could stop raiding Social Security surpluses held in intergovernmental holds, which makes up 1/3 of the total debt" While I understand your sentiment - you miss the point. All the analysis of the fiscal soundness of social security ASSUME the monies that have been raided will magically appear when they are needed. They assume that the treasury notes that are just big IOU's, will be cashed out. So even if the actual cash were sitting in a room, instead of the OIU's, you still will run out of money. The one solution in the article, which did not either cut benefits drastically, or raise tax rates, was to eliminate the caps. By adding my idea of taxing investment income - perhaps at the individual rate, rather than the higher self employed rate - you make the fund solvent, at current benefit levels, for decades to come.
Should Social Security be taken out of the Federal budget? I do not borrow cash from my credit Cards. I do not borrow cash from my 401k or my own Social Security account. This makes no sense. Why do the American people and Congress allow the same non-sense from Washington? People are sometimes very strange in there thinking. You can not borrow money then count it as income for the month. It's not income if you borrow it, it's a debt you must pay. Social security is a pay as you go program. Republicans have long wanted to end the program and sending the program into Bankruptcy has long been there goal. They don't mind supporting there own kind but they object to paying a tax that helps others in there old age. The Republicans would love to end this Social program and the Elderly can just starve and live on the streets. The Republicans favor personal savings accounts because they know if you take out younger Americans paying into the program it will put the program in bankruptcy which is there goal. Congress has borrowed from the Social Security trust fund and used the money in the general fund spending many times in a effort to end the program.

Any one is welcome to tell me the exact amount even you do not get the maximum. I also know Canada goverment does not pay OLD AGE SECRUITY fund to the retired people (65 years old) if his family gross income is more than about $36700. Is it true ?? SO FAR,NONE ANSWER TO THE POINT!
Is it trus that refugee assistance is more than ssi? If the immigrant is over 65 they can apply for SSI and Medicaid and get more than my mom gets for Social Security, and she worked from 1944 till 2004, only getting $791 per month because she was born in 1924 and there is a "catch 22". It is interesting that the federal government provides a single refugee with a monthly allowance of $1,890.00 and each can also obtain an additional $580.00 in social assistance for a total of $2,470.00/month. This compares very well to a single pensioner who after contributing to the growth and development of America for 40 t o 50 years can only receive a monthly maximum of $1, 012.00 in old age pension and Guaranteed Income Supplement.

Why are our elected politcians giving more Social Security benefits to immigrants, than we who worked for it? Maybe our pensioners should apply as refugees! Consider sending this to all your American friends so we can all be ticked off and may be get the refugees cut back to $ 1012.00 and the Pensioners up to $2470.00 and enjoy some of the money we were forced to submit to the Government over the last 40 or 50 or 60 years. Please forward to every American to expose what our elected Politicians have been doing over the past 11 years - to the over-taxed American. The point, youare, is should refugees get free money for no work? Americans don't. That's the whole point! Folks, did I mention anywhere in this question the word "illegal"? No I didn't. It's about immigrants. Is this not the Immigration catagory?????

Age 62 ready for retirement. Why is it that in the social security office, mostly 20 year olds with lots kids? Took my friend today to go check to see what kind of money he will get if he retires now, sadly we saw a bunch of 20 year olds with lots of kids trying to get social security for their children.. Some kids need it, but i fear most of these young parents don't want to work and live off of their kids income. My 62 year old friend was pissed off to see this and he knows why SOCIAL SECURITY WILL RUN OUT IN 14 YEARS ACCORDING TO THE LADY WHO WORKED THERE. Its because of THESE YOUNG PARENTS WHO DON'T WANT TO WORK. And trying to get social security for their children pushing for it as well as pushing for WELFARE, AFDC, WIC, ALIMONY, ECT.. WTF is going on with kids these days. NOw im upset i might not get social security and ive been working 2 to 3 jobs all my life. I forgot to mention that the lady at the social security office said they might increase the social security tax out of our checks to compensate. That means the people who work get double screwed while the people riding the system are laughing at us making bar be ques, drinking and driving that nice car with chrome wheels. This makes me sick. i heard 1 mom saying that she was trying to get ssi for her child because her child was hyper. i think she called it a.d.d. @ michelle

What 65yr old naturalized U.S citizen who never worked in US can get? Female, 65yr old, living in U.S, became U.S citizen in 2004, never worked and never payed tax in U.S, no income, some savings and do not own home. What kind of benefit can I get. I know I can not have Social Security, Medicare and Medicate (probably). Can I get some kind of Old Age Pension? Where can I find this information?
Social Security when wife is older and is the lower income earner? Wife made very little income and when she turned 62 - she signed up for SS - the monthly payments are very small. Now she is 66.5 and her husband is 62. He has always "paid the max " into SS. Can she reapply for spousal SS based on his income? If so - will she get 50% of his full retirement age SS or will it be reduced to about 35% because she started drawing early at age 62? Finally can she refile to get SS before he retires? He likes his job and plans to work for several more years. Thanks - I could not find older spouse examples on the web. If you can give a web site as reference that would be great too. I want my friends to go talk to the SS office but they don't think it worthwhile.
If Sharon Angle Beats Harry Reid? Will we have the first certifiably insane sitting U.S. Senator since Republican Joseph McCarthy? Sharon Angle: Wants to launch a national witch hunt to "root out" the domestic enemies in Congress. (I wonder, does she have a list of names of known anti-Americans in the State Department?!) Wants the U.S. to withdrawal from United Nations leaving Russia and China to dominate the U.N. Security Council. Wants to abolish the U.S. Department of Education Does not believe that there is a separation of church and state in this country. Opposes abortion even when women have been raped or impregnated through forced incest. Believes that there is a scientific link between abortion and breast cancer. Wants to reinstate the prohibition of alcohol. Wants to abolish social security including: Federal Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance Unemployment benefits Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Health Insurance for Aged and Disabled (Medicare) Grants to States for Medical Assistance Programs (Medicaid) State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) Supplemental Security Income (SSI) She has hinted that if conservatives do not win back control of the government, people should arm themselves and militias should prepare to overthrow the United States government. Has officially blamed the Canadian government with no evidence for allowing the 9/11 hijackers to enter the United States. God Help Nevada and America???
Why do people give out Social Security Numbers to strangers? I work for a company that deals with online ordering, and over the phone ordering. Usually we ask for a Name, Address and a Visa or Mastercard number to take their order with, we're very careful about shredding all the paper and we have tight internet security and whatnot. Sometimes, a customer will need order information or something and usually all we need is a last and first name to look them up. But usually once or twice a week, people will offer me their social security number to help look them up. (This usually occurs in the pause between 'hold on a moment let me look you up' and 'how do you spell your last name' they usually ask it between there) Obviously I reassure them that all I need is there name and don't say any more on it. But like I said, this happens once or twice a week regularly, from people all across the country and from various ages. I do know that SS numbers only started being issued to babies in the 80's and that before that, you got it when you got your drivers license. (I'm talking about my parents time, 50's & 60's, my SSN was issued the day I was born) The state of Illinois gives them as medical licenses (only on certain kinds of medical licenses and I wont say which kind). (INFO: "Before 1986, people often did not have a Social Security number until the age of about 14, since they were used for income tracking purposes, and those under that age seldom had substantial income. In 1986, American taxation law was altered so that individuals over 5 years old without Social Security numbers could not be successfully claimed as dependents on tax returns; by 1990 the threshold was lowered to 1 year old, and was later abolished altogether. Since then, parents have often applied for Social Security numbers for their children soon after birth; today, it can be done on the application for a birth certificate.") No wonder there is such an issue with identity theft, if people are just giving them out to random strangers! Do people not realize that if I were a less honest person I could take that and steal all their money or something. I mean seriously..do they not realize it..or what? So..my question is..why would you offer someone your social security number? Especially an e-order company? Do people not know that you shouldn't give it out? What are your experiences with this and have you ever offered it to anyone but your bank/school/federal agency/employer. I understand those more, but we're just an e-company, so why give it to us, we've never asked for it. Your order it, we ship it. That's all. Thanks for your answers, I'd really love some insight on this! To add detail on the quote labeled 'info': http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_Security_number_(United_States) I got it from wikipedia. Just listing my source.
history of social security card? History Lesson on Your Social Security Card Just in case some of you young whippersnappers (& some older ones) didn't know this. It's easy to check out, if you don't believe it. Be sure and show it to your kids. They need a little history lesson on what's what and it doesn't matter whether you are Democrat or Republican. Facts are Facts!!! Social Security Cards up until the 1980s expressly stated the number and card were not to be used for identification purposes. Since nearly everyone in the United States now has a number, it became convenient to use it anyway and the message was removed..[9] Your Social Security An old Social Security card with the "NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION" message. Our Social Security Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. He promised: 1.) That participation in the Program would be Completely voluntary, No longer Voluntary 2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual Incomes into the Program, Now 7.65% on the first $90,000 3.) That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year, No longer tax deductible 4.) That the money the participants put into the independent 'Trust Fund' rather than into the general operating fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program, and, Under Johnson the money was moved to The General Fund and Spent 5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income. Under Clinton & Gore Up to 85% of your Social Security can be Taxed Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month -- and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the Federal government to 'put away' -- you may be interested in the following: ------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- ---- Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the independent 'Trust Fund' and put it into the general fund so that Congress could spend it? A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the democratically controlled House and Senate. ------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- -- Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding? A: The Democratic Party. ------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- ----- Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities? A: The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting the 'tie-breaking' deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the US ------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- - Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving annuity payments to immigrants? AND MY FAVORITE: A: That's right! Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party. Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, began to receive Social Security payments! The Democratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it! ------------ -- ------------ --------- ----- ------------ --------- --------- Then, after violating the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away! And the worst part about it is uninformed citizens believe it! If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe changes will evolve. Maybe not, some Democrats are awfully sure of what isn't so. But it's worth a try. How many people can YOU send this to? Actions speak louder than bumper stickers. AND CONGRESS GIVES THEMSELVES 100% RETIREMENT FOR ONLY SERVING ONE TERM!!!
can anyone give me a correct answer about social security? My husband of 24 yrs died last week of cancer. We had no life insurance. He was able to keep making our house payments until last month. August. '07. I work full time and I can't make the mortgage on my income but intend to get a 2nd job. My kids age 20 and 21 who are full time college students are against me getting the 2nd job. I was told by social security that I can't get survivor benefits until I'm 60. I am 49. Husband was 51 and on insurance from his job and social security disability during the latter part of his illness. My 21 yr old son has epilepsy, Tourettes Syndrome and OCD. He has run up alot of medical debt for me although he is on my insurance plan at my job. Can I get any help from SS other than the $255 death benefit? Thanks.
Is Social Security working the way that FDR promised that it would? History Lesson on Your Social Security Card It's easy to check out, if you don't believe it. Facts are Facts. Social Security Cards up until the 1980s expressly stated the number and card were not to be used for identification purposes. Since nearly everyone in the United States now has a number, it became convenient to use it anyway and the message, NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION, was removed. An old Social Security card with the "NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION" message. A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the Democratic controlled House and Senate. Then, after violating the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away?! Actions speak louder than bumper stickers. FDR was a Democrat wasn't he?
How should we change social security? I believe that reality will force us to change Social Security in the future. A couple of my relatives are drawing close to $2,000 a month in benefits and they become indignant about the possibility of changing their benefit. They claim that they paid in and now deserve to draw the benefit. They ignore the fact that benefits paid to them in about 2 years exceed the amount that they paid in during their entire lifetimes. To be frank, I will fall in the same group. My benefits will be about $2,500 per month and I will very quickly recoup my original payments and pull in much more over my life expectancy. Please don't rant about what brought us to this point...that doesn't contribute to a solution. People shouldn't expect the government to give them help that they simply don't need AND which is entirely out of proportion to the payments that they made during their lifetimes. We will all suffer from a failed economy and we have to consider realistic solutions to address the problem. Simply put, we can not expect the children of the boomers to pay huge portions of their income to support the boomers in their old age...unless there is no other alternative. And to the ranters: No. I'm not going to be the only Boomer who voluntarily declines a benefit that I'm qualified for. However, I do support changing the system to provide a reasonable, modest benefit for those who need it and to eliminate or reduce the benefit for those who don't. How should Social Security be changed? Bemmer71: I agree that most receive less. However, unless the system is changed, it puts at risk those people who receive and need the modest benefit they now get. Who's Sane: I'm sorry that you are experiencing so many difficulties. Your case proves my point that the system must be kept solvent to preserve a safety net for the people who really need it. However, I acknowledge that this slightly changes the purpose of the system. Right now it awards a larger benefit to those who paid more into the system. The system currently disregards need. I believe that the system should emphasize need when establishing benefits. For those who lose pension or 401K benefits in the future, their benefit should then be restored. Just an idea. Solvency comes first or everyone loses.
What if children were forced to pay for parents social security pension (and not by strangers)? The geriatric population is the most represented demographic in Washington (AARP)... ...not to mention, bio-medicine is invested heavily because of geriatric demand (instead of improving quality of life for all ages); Life-span will inevitably increase--b/c of the bio-tech industry geared towards the ever expanding geriatric population--leaving younger generations to carry the burden of Social Security longer; for every one senior citizen, eventually it'll take one younger person to support them rather than five (talk about pressure)... ---------------------------------- With all that said, what if legislation geared social security to be paid directly by the old folks' kids (and not by strangers)? It would shift the social structure of the American family; new couples would want to have--AT LEAST--two kids AND successfully raise them... Single people or couples who can't have kids will have the duty of being very professionally productive in society than ever before in order to support themselves--independently--into old age (since they don't have kids who can support them)... ...or become successful enough to enjoy a sustainable geriatric lifestyle. And as for vagabond couples who have relationships for the sake of having a child to support them into old age, the required contribution of the child for the parent growing into old age is based on a percentage of the child's future income... ...this would force parents to raise their kids successfully for the sake of receiving MORE pension based on their kids success! Another potential benefit is that because of more mothers joining the workforce and lessening the birth rate, people would be encouraged to have at least two kids (in order to have a sustainable lifestyle for the kids' two parents) ...and IF this law is abused, by parents irresponsibly giving birth to TOO many kids, those parents won't get a dime unless they rear their kids into success stories (as opposed to having too many kids today strains the overall intelligence and chance for success for modern day uber-families i.e. trailer trash) * 3 minutes ago * - 4 days left to answer. Additional Details oh, and with increasing advances in extending life span through bio tech medicine, insurance companies will see a demand for the tech by the ever-increasing geriatric population... ...and inevitably the insurance companies will force old people to live super healthy lives in order to secure those life span extending treatments. If--and inevitably, it will--this is the case, maybe university post grads and America's young, fit, capable workforce will find themselves illegally immigrating to other countries (and not the other way around)! how do you 'force' anyone to pay their taxes? social contract that ensures civility and order is a right we pay for through tax (unless private contractors take over most civil services like policing, fire, hospital etc). The social contract to pay into that right is still their...I'm just saying, shake up the society (otherwise how people are organized) that enters the contract.
I am handicapped, why does it take over 2 years for me to get social security disability because of my age? I was in an accident. I was 39 at the time of the accident . I have had 3 surgeries with the last one fusing my spine in 2 different places. My Dr's have said I will never be able to work again. Why did it take 2 years and 2 denials before I had to go infront of a federal Judge. Once he saw my MRi's and list of opoid meds I am on he granted my disability on the spot. But it took 2 denials and eachtime the soc. sec would state its because I was 39 and 40 years old. Why dont they just look at the disability and grant it for people who really need it. What are people supposed to do with no income? Then once I found out I got soc sec they said there is a 6 month wait period so Idont get backpay from the day I applied.
Important issues about the New Deal? Which of these things established by the New Deal still are important enough that the federal government should still be doing them? 1. Social Security (old age insurance) 2. FDIC (protection of bank accounts) 3. Job creation during unemployment (WPA, PWA) 4. Conservation projects (CCC) 5. Regulation of the Stock Market (SEC) 6. Support for the Arts 7. Providing Low Cost Power to Low Income People (TVA) 8. Assisting young people to go to college or find jobs 9. Protecting workers and their right to organize unions 10. Providing low cost public housing Talk about any of the ones you know please. Or anything related to the New Deal.
The ideology of The New Deal? The ideology of the New Deal is increasingly under attack by conservatives who feel the federal government should play less of a role in our economic life. Can an 18yr old student qualify for caresource health insurance? My daugter received Caresource health card until recently, she is now 18 years of age and a full time college student, can she still qualify , she has no income and household income of less than 10000 per year. (grandparents social security) I do not have custody, grandparents did.
70 years old married 47 yrs. to a selfish, control freak.? I have no money of my own except social security check of $750.00 pm. Husband has control of all other income in his name. Bought a $150,000 fishing camp without my knowledge in his name. He pays the bills for our home but I have to buy any cleaning supplies or food that I would like. We do not sleep together and barely communicate except for generalities. e.g. it's hot today!! LOL The reason I am still with him is MONEY. If I would leave I think I would be a bag lady. I have 3 children and 7 grandchildren whom I dearly love and who love me. That is a plus in my old age. I am happy when he is gone to his camp, but no money to do anything. Does anyone know what my options might be?
At what age do most people begin saving for retirement? My husband and I are both 30 years old, and we just started saving this year. We are only able to save $250 each month in a Target Retirement mutual fund. Our goal is to save 15% of our gross income each month (but right now, we are only saving about 10%). Will we have enough money when we retire? I don't want to be 80 years old, looking for a job at Walmart because we didn't save enough. My husband is in the military, so we should also be getting a pension at the end of 20 years in service. I certainly hope that social security, a pension and our Target Retirement mutual fund are enough to keep us out of the poor house!
Can you support a bill that stops Social Security to illegal aliens? http://www.congress.org/congressorg/issues/bills/?billtype=H.R.&billnumb=160&congress=111 'To amend title II of the Social Security Act and the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide prospectively that wages earned, and self-employment income derived, by individuals who are not citizens or nationals of the United States shall not be credited for coverage under the old-age, survivors, and disability insurance program under such title, and to provide the President with authority to enter into agreements with other nations taking into account such limitation on crediting of wages and' Bill # H.R.160 Illegal aliens would be inelgiable for Social Security. Is this a good idea?? Social Security and illegal aliens http://www.snopes.com/politics/immigration/socialsecurity.asp ---------------------------------------- Also the http://www.numbersusa.com link down below will tell you more. The link in the main body will tell you what the bill says and it is critical to read it. And no.. we don't have the money to support Social Security if things don't work out very, very well. THAT is one reason Obama is worried.
The UN report stated that the main reason that couples in Africa and China? Wanted big familys or someone else to raise children for them was that the child could support them in old age. When they could no longer work. The same is true of Mexico when your to old to work there is no social security or other income that automatically clicks in when you reach 65, or get disabled. they depend on children to support them so they keep having babies in the hopes that one will live to adult hood to take care of them in their old age. If they adopted a social program for older people and provided birth control they would control the size of their family. What do you think? do you think that this will work and save a lot of starving babies from suffering? A social program for old people would be cheaper than all the money sent to feed the starving people. what do you think?
401K to IRA to Withdrawal - Retired, Age 67? Hello! My mom would like to help me buy my first house, but I do not want her to loose any $$ in the process. She is retired, age 67 and her money is still in a 401k from her old employer. She has no other income besides Social Security (under $1k/month). Depending on the answers, she may withdraw up to $60k. The first question - should she rollover from the 401k to an IRA? 2nd question - if she withdraws money will she have to pay the 10% penalty? 3rd question - what are the chances of her having to pay no or little taxes on what she withdraws? (If she withdraws $60k, is it like her earning $60k in income that year? and that is how the tax is calculated?) I have promised to pay her back any money she ends up paying in penalties or taxes, but she is worried that amount will be to much. Thanks all for your time and help. Me and mom appreciate it!!
My understanding of the current social security rules are that a person under the age of 65 can work and make? $945 a month. Net Or Gross? Also is other than SS non-taxable income figured into this allowable amount of $945 a month.? If you make say $800 in say January can you apply the excess $195 to say February or another month in the same year? So I guess a question could be is $945 x 12 = $11,340 annually [able to make in a year] or is it calculated on a monthly basis? Do the $'s rollover I guess would be a better way of saying it? Thanks in advance for any help.... By the way I will be 62 in about 3 months and I an not totally ready for the rocking chair. I wonder if I start a home online business how the ss admin. will treat situation... Net, Gross, Before Or after Expenses? Can you have any money in the bank and still draw SS? Ahh! So many questions for such an old man!
baby boomers and social security? To the genX, Y, Z. How do you feel about boomers collecting SS benifits? I made a contract with my government and employer 30 plus years ago to invest a percentage of my weekly income to be set aside for my retirement. I did this in good faith and am not some hippy socialist that waited for others to take care of me. This was a long term insurance that when I was too old to work, I would have some minimal income to keep me from winding up on the streets and starving to death. I have taking enough care that I will hopefully never come to that, SS or not, but why am I begrudged the expectation that I should recieve what I have diligently invested in? I still had to make wise choices and forgo many whims and luxuries to gaurentee my own old age future. I am curious why I see so many younger people that do not think I deserve to collect my investment. As`I said, I do not need SS and have planned for my own future. But why am I selfish to expect my contract not to be voided because my government is incompetent? I would sue anyone else that pulled that excuse on me for a debt owed or contract broken. My grandma survived on $800 a month until her death at 93. That was after working for 60 years. My father , a self made military, depression era doctor, worked saving lives for 50 years, collected $1200 after making maximum contributions for most of that time. I do see the injustice that my youngers will have to deal with. But I will never begrudge helping to finance the twilight years of my elders. Is it just that my boomer generation doesn't garner the same respect that I felt for my parents and grandparent generation? great debate. 18 year old girl dating a 32 year old guy, is this ok? Is it so wrong for a 18 year old to be dating a 32 year old? I mean seriously he already has a set steady income and job which most guys my age don't. He has his own houses and cars. Yeah there is a 14 year gap in age, but seriously he is lucky he gets a younger girl and I am lucky I get an older maturer guy with a life. What do you think? FYI I am not a gold digger I just like security :)
Should I let my fifteen year old daughter move in with her boyfriend? I'm a 61 year old black father of a 15 year old girl. Her mother(24 years my junior) died in a car accident two years ago and my relationship with my daughter been strained ever since. She's a bright young woman but she's very disrespectful to me. I have enough trouble in my life already such as my house being foreclosed, my high blood pressure and arthritis and my only source of income being social security and disability checks. I have two older children in their late thirties from my first marriage but I havent been in their lives since they were teenagers because their mother was a tyrant. My daughter dont have much options. She is so in love with this 18 year old boy whos parents spoil him rotten and they offered to let my daughter stay with them. Personally, I think my little girl is mature enough for her age to do what her heart tells her to do but these white folks who run this government dont think so. What should I do?
