Social Security Income For Aged. Please Help.?
I'm 68 years old & I'm not able to get a social security income for aged. Which includes cash. I've only been a resident for almost 4 years. and it states that i could only get it if i have been a resident for 5 years. Also, I came from Cuba in 2000 and I had to come in 1996 or before and if I came after that I had to have had my residents card for more than 5 years, like I stated earlier. So is there another way to get the social security income for aged people? Please Answer! Thank you. I made a mistake. I need the SSI , Supplemental Security Income. Thanks

- talk to your case worker & focus more on the pension and assistance you receive from Cuba.
- The information that you have received is accurate. According to Social Security Administration Publication Number 05-11051: Supplemental Security Income For Non-Citizens: "If you entered the United States on or after August 22, 1996, then you may not be eligible for SSI for the first five years as a lawfully admitted permanent resident even if you have 40 qualifying credits of earnings." This five-year waiting period applies for all forms of government benefits known as "federally meanstested benefits" - these include Food Stamps and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), as well as SSI. I'm sorry for the disappointing news. The only way that I know of to speed the process woull be for you to obtain US citizenship. Good luck - I hope this helped.
