In your opinion, is 'The Death of the West' inevitable?

1. No, of course not. Demographers make the same mistake that the "global warming" gang make. They assume that what's happening will continue to happen. There are any number of natural disasters that could decimate the Earth and have an impact far greater on the 3rd World than the 1st World. This is due to the ability of 1st World nations to cope with disasters much better. For instance, consider a Bird Flu pandemic.
2. Granted, it depends on a lot of factors, I think it will eventually happen. If a lot of the people moving to these Western countries Westernize themselves, and adopt the Western culture, the fall of the West will be slowed, but eventually, given enough time, it will happen. Look at China. China was ahead of almost every other place in the world from the Classical period up until maybe the 1600s. By that time, the West was well on its way to controlling the world. China shut its doors, and fell way behind. The country that had been the most advanced in the world technologically and politically, fell. By the time of the Opium Wars, when China finally realized how far behind it was, it was too late. The West can easily stick around a while longer, but I think, eventually, it will either fall, or at least change drastically.
3. This is the real reason why the republican party doesn't want to stop climate change. All the droughts, floodings and other disasters that are going to happen will hit the poor and the 3rd world the hardest.
