Are conservatives the new fascists?

Contrary to what most people think, the Nazis were ardent socialists (hence the term “National socialism”). They believed in free health care and guaranteed jobs. They confiscated inherited wealth and spent vast sums on public education. They purged the church from public policy, promoted a new form of pagan spirituality, and inserted the authority of the state into every nook and cranny of daily life. The Nazis declared war on smoking, supported abortion, euthanasia, and gun control. They loathed the free market, provided generous pensions for the elderly, and maintained a strict racial quota system in their universities—where campus speech codes were all the rage. The Nazis led the world in organic farming and alternative medicine. Hitler was a strict vegetarian, and Himmler was an animal rights activist. It is hard to deny that modern progressivism and classical fascism shared the same intellectual roots. We often forget, for example, that Mussolini and Hitler had many admirers in the United States. W.E.B. Du Bois was inspired by Hitler's Germany, and Irving Berlin praised Mussolini in song. Many fascist tenets were espoused by American progressives like John Dewey and Woodrow Wilson, and FDR incorporated fascist policies in the New Deal. Condor: Are you forgetting that FDR and the fascists shared a certain fondness for concentration camps? Only FDR never got around to killing his prisoners. Guys, that's my POINT! It sounds like liberals because they share the same ideological roots! I just get tired of conservatives being called fascists, when we are the heirs of classical liberalism, individual rights and free markets.

  1. Funny how the only ones asking for what you describe are libs. Joe Kennedy was one of the most influential supporters from the US for the Nazi's
  2. Judging by their actions evil Republican Neocons are worse than Fascists.

  6. sure, everything would have been peachy if hitler would have succeded??? where do you get this stuff. really sad
  7. No. The conservatives want free enterprise and less government regulations. This is not fascism.
  8. Yes, the Neo version of conservativism is a fascist ideology. However, the Neo conservatives are anything but conservative; they are likely the most radical group of politicians to come to power in this country since the founding. They make the worst of the power hungry elite appear meek in comparison.
  9. No. Liberals have been Fascists since the 60's. Hitler started the Nalitonal Socialist Party in the 30's. Communism, Socialism, Liberalism, Fascism, and Nazism are all about the same thing. That's what the Democrat Party wants to put in Power in the US.
  10. SHHHH!!!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?!?!?! Using provable historical facts? My god man your going to cause some one in the far left to have an embolism and die from fact shock? Do you want that on your hands? My god! what's next pointing out rapid and sudden climate change can be proven repeatedly before Industrialization? I can not in good conscience allow you to cause any far left, history/fact deprived hate mongers any suffering because you decided to use proven historical facts... I am sorry sir, but you are wrong for doing so. Wrong I say!
  11. Same old song and dance.
  12. Modern day conservatives (especially the neo con's) are indeed facists as are mondern day neo liberals. They have jetesoned the health care and other social welfare benefits used by the Nazis to gain working class support in favor of "free market" economics which favor the rich and the corporate elites. To attract working class followers they have(very cleverly) substituted the three G's ( guns, God and gay's) for the economic security issues. What they have in common with the fascist parties of the 1930's is that both represent the merger of corporate and state power, the elimination of democratic control over state institutions and the acendency of the "national security state" and consequent elimination of individual liberties. Post 9/11 America is flurting with facism in a way not seen since the America First movement of the late 1930's and the McCarthy era of the early 1950's. The problem with twenty first century traditional American liberals in not what their policies have aledgedly done to abet the rise of faschism but that have have done too little to oppose facism's corporate and political sponsors. The German Nazis cleverly perverted of the word socialism in naming their movement "National Socialism". If the Nazis were infact socialists, why did they murder or drive underground into the resistance all of the leaders of the German Socialist and Communist Parties in pre war Germany ? The true socialists in Germany as in Spain, (who's democraticly elected socialist government was over thrown by a facist coup lead by General Franco and supported by Hitler), had a very different vision of society than did the Nazis. And twenty first century American socialists have a very different vision of society than twenty first century American neo conservatives and neo liberals do.
