Do the American taxpayers comprehend the unfunded liabilities for state and local employees?
It's estimated, under the current retirement systems in place, that there's over $2 trillion dollars in UNFUNDED pension and health care benefits for state and local retirees and future retirees. Well over $1 trillion is owed by just 4 states... California, Illinois, New York and New Jersey. How will the taxpayers ever pay for these benefits?

- Why do they continue to elect politicians who cannot balance a budget. Cut the waste and PAY YOUR EMPLOYEES.
- Wisconsin's public-union pensions were almost fully funded. There was no "crisis" in some of the states currently attacking unions. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=123815636
- We are going through that problem here in San Diego. The same people who got us into the mess tried to shift the blame and while telling us that they could get us out of that mess if we'd voluntarily raise our own taxes.
- the tax payers under stand but the politicians won't do there job so we have to elect new ones every election .
