age, health, and income eligibility for medicaid in texas?

My mother is 91 years old, nearly blind ( macular degeneration), on Medicare, on social security, has trouble walking (Hip replacement), owns her own home. what does she need in order to qualify for Medicaid?

  1. You would have to check with your county Medicaid office about income limits where you are. She qualifies because she is over 65 but her income could be too high. Your mother has Medicare. Why does she need Medicaid also? It is OK to own a home and be on Medicaid. She only has 20% of bills to pay under Medicare and could purchase a Medigap policy to cover those.
  2. The only additional health insurance that a 91-yr-old on Medicare needs is a supplemental policy of some sort. These supplemental policies cover what Medicare doesn't. Many companies offer them and if you check with her, she may have already purchased the coverage and has been paying for it all these years since she was 65.
